1. Based on the use-value of visas, Vietnam visa US citizens are divided into 2 categories:

(Legal basis: Article 7 Immigration Law (Law No. 47/2014 / QH13))

- Single entry visa: Within the validity period of the visa, US citizens only enter Vietnam once

- Multiple entry visas: During the validity of the visa, there is no limit to the number of entry times. Of course, service visa costs and stamping fee are also higher than single entry visas.

2. Based on the purpose of US to Vietnam visa

(Legal basis: Article 8 Immigration Law (Law No. 47/2014 / QH13))

- Symbol: ĐT - Issued to foreign investors in Vietnam and foreign lawyers practicing in Vietnam.

- Symbol: DN - Issued to people who come to work with enterprises in Vietnam - Bussines visa

- Symbol: NN1 - Issued to the person who is the head of the representative office or project of an international organization or a foreign non-governmental organization in Vietnam.

- Symbol: NN2 - Issued to the head of representative offices, branches of foreign traders, representative offices of other foreign economic, cultural and professional organizations in Vietnam.

- Symbol: NN3 - Issued to people working with foreign non-governmental organizations, representative offices and branches of foreign traders, representative offices of economic, cultural and professional organizations other foreign countries in Vietnam.

- Symbol: DH - Issued to people to practice, study.

- Symbol: HN - Issued to participants in conferences and seminars.

- Symbol: PV1 - Issued to journalists, resident journalists in Vietnam.

- Symbol: PV2 - Issued to journalists and journalists for short-term operation in Vietnam.

- Symbol: LĐ - Issued for people to work.

- Symbol: DL - Issued for people to travel - Travel visa.

- Symbol: TT - Issued to foreigners who are spouses, children under 18 years old of foreigners who are granted visas with symbols LV1, LV2, DT, NN1, NN2, DH, PV1, Labor or foreigners. Father, mother, wife, husband, and children of Vietnamese citizens.

- Symbol: VR - Issued to people who visit relatives or for other purposes.

- Symbol: SQ - Issued in the cases specified in Clause 3 Article 17

- Symbol: NG1 - Issued to members of the delegation of the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the President, the President of the National Assembly and the Prime Minister.

- Symbol: NG2 - Granted to members of the delegation of the Standing Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Vice President, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Face Vietnam Fatherland Front, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court, Director of the Supreme People's Procuracy, General State Auditor; members of the delegation of guests at the same level of the Minister and the equivalent, Provincial Party Committee Secretary, City Party Committee Secretary, Chairman of People's Council, Chairman of People's Committee of provinces and cities directly under the Central Government.

- Symbol: NG3 - Issued to members of diplomatic missions, consulates, international organizations representative agencies of the United Nations, inter-governmental agencies and spouses and children under the age of 18, the maid accompanies the term.

- Symbol: NG4 - Issued to persons who come to work with diplomatic representative agencies, consulates, international organizations representative agencies of the United Nations, inter-governmental organizations; visits to members of diplomatic representative agencies, consulates and international organizations representative agencies of the United Nations and inter-governmental organizations.

- Symbol: LV1 - Issued to people who come to work with departments, agencies and units directly under the Central Communist Party of Vietnam; The National Assembly, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuracy, the State Audit, ministries, ministerial-level agencies and government-attached agencies; Provincial Party Committee, City Party Committee, People's Council and People's Committee of provinces and cities under central authority.

- Symbol: LV2 - Issued to people who come to work with socio-political organizations, social organizations, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Normally, Vietnamese visa USA  is mostly in the category of travel visa (DL) and business visa (DN). The cost of a tourist visa is the cheapest among all types of visas.

3. Based on the visa duration:

(Legal basis: Article 9 of the Immigration Law (Law No. 47/2014 / QH13))

Based on the period of validity of Vietnam visa United States citizen, there are types of visa below:

- The visa is valid for not more than 30 days: SQ

- Visas are valid for no more than 03 months: HN, DL

- Visa is valid for no more than 06 months: VR

- Visas are valid for no more than 12 months: NG1, NG2, NG3, NG4, LV1, LV2, DN, NN1, NN2, NN3, DH, PV1, PV2 and TT

- Visas with a term of not more than 2 years: LĐ

- Visas have a term of not more than 5 years: ĐT

On April 9, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam adopted a 12-month visa plan, multiple entry times for US citizens to Vietnam for short-term commercial or tourist purposes.

The new reciprocal visa agreement is expected to go into effect around the end of May or early June, which will benefit the US and Vietnamese trade and tourism visitors, while also creating opportunities. New business, investment, and tourism associations. The success of this agreement reflects the commitment of both the United States and Vietnam in strengthening bilateral relations through the expansion of economic and trade opportunities as well as the development of cohesion between people and people.

Based on the agreement, Vietnam will issue Vietnam visa USA with a maximum duration of one year, multiple entry times to US citizens who come to Vietnam for commercial or short-term travel purposes.
