Mekong Dawn Cruise 3 days : Siem Reap to Phnom Penh
Day 1: Siem Reap – Kompong Thom – Chnouk Tru – Kampong Chhnang
Your cruise begins at 8:30 am from your hotel in Siem Reap where we will collect you then transfer you by a private, air-conditioned coach to Kompong Thom where upon arrival guest will jump onto the small boat for an exciting ride on Stung Sean River, leading us to the unique Chnouk Tru floating village, which sits on the expansive Tonle Sap Lake renowned for the fishing communities that live their life on the water, with floating schools, temples and homes aplenty. From there you will join the Mekong Dawn boat, where you are greeted by our Cruise members with a welcome drink before settling into the sumptuous cabin. As lunch is served, the boat starts cruising toward Kampong Chhnang, a Town famous for fish farming, pottery ware; and also where the boat anchors for the night.
Day 2: Kg Chhnang – Koh Chen (Chinese Island)
After a hearty breakfast to kick-start the day, you will be transferred to land via a smaller boat to visit the pottery village. Tuk tuks will be used to get around the villages – the perfect way to watch the stunning scenery of this province pass by. Think emerald green paddies dotted with sugar palms, water buffaloes lazily grazing in shimmering, lotus-lined ponds, and smiling children screaming ‘hello’ from the stilted wooden houses they call home. After the tour we will return to the boat for a mouth watering traditional lunch served on board. Enjoy your leisure time over the magnificent water landscape, watching fishermen float by on wooden boats, waving to over-excited children on the shore, while we sail towards Kampong Tralach, where you will experience an Ox Cart ride – a traditional mode of transport that is still commonly used in rural areas today to visit Kampong Tralach Temple which was built in 1841. Guests will then return back to Mekong Dawn to enjoy a sundowner with snacks and drinks served among the scenic water landscape as we cruise towards Oudong, the ancient Cambodian capital. Between 1618 and 1866, Oudong served as the country’s capital before relocating to Phnom Penh. The boat will dock at Koh Chen (Chinese Island, a small village of whose inhabitants specialize in silver and copper smiting. We dock here in the peaceful vicinity for the night.
Day 3: Koh Chen – Phnom Penh
After a hearty breakfast, we will visit an Oudong Temple which sits on top of a Mountain, Tackling the 509 steps to the peak; you are rewarded with unparalleled views and a series of historic stupors, tombs and memorials that can be explored. We will then return to the boat for a leisurely lunch before heading towards our final destination of Phnom Penh where our service ends.
